Female bonding, 1920's style

I went to a Hen's night on Saturday night. It was a 1920's theme, so I dolled up in my fascinator/head band and beads (thanks Sister B!), a friend threw on a feather boa when I stopped by to pick her up, and I hit the streets in my Mary Janes.

For someone who doesn't like playing dress-ups, it was a lot of fun! I rate the 1920's.

It was the strangest Hen's night I think I have been to, not only because I drove (unheard of in the pre-kids days) but because most of my friends were off the booze for various reasons too. We were the old Nannas down one end of the table, nattering and eating sushi, while the 'young ones' hit the champers. Bizarre.

It had all the markings of a typical Hen's night.

A gaggle of women.

Obligatory penis straws for our drinks.

The Hen drunkedly proclaiming her undying love for her buck.

But it was different too.

The conversation was deep and meaningful.

There was no veil or pink fluffy bunny ears.

Come to think about it, aside from the whole Flapper thing, it was just another night at a cocktail bar with a group of female friends. A chance for some female bonding before my friend gets married.

I'm glad our Hen had a great night. It was wonderful to be able to share in the good spirit of the evening and makes me look forward to the wedding even more. Once I find the perfect frock I will be totally ready!

What did you do for your Hen's night?

Would you believe I didn't have a bachelorette party, and I've never even been to a "real" one???

We wanted to throw a party for my BFF before she got married in 2005, but she was just too overwhelmed with all the wedding planning to take a weekend away from it. So the following year we had a girls' weekend to honor her first year of marriage. It definitely didn't have any "caution to the wind" undertones (and there were no body part-inspired straws or eating utensils)...but we did have a great time. :)

I went for dinner with "my posse".

It was brilliant.

(We went to the Greedy Goose, of Restaurant Rules fame.)

I was a breastfeeding hen. No booze. And most of my friends were either pregnant or bf'ing too - so it never got too messy....

I have never once in my life gone to a party like this. I attempted to get the girls together for my last birthday but only one other person showed up.
Your group of gals sounds like a winning combo.
Maybe that's where I went wrong??

I was never one for the plastic penis straws so we had a nice dinner followed by a nice cocktail and it was... nice. x

My kind friends hired a full on chicken suit and I had to go round the streets doing random tasks. We came across a guy with an acordian who kindly played the chicken dance song for me to flap my wings to too!

can't stand the penis straw thing...I think it comes from the years I spent working in hospitality...Got hit in the head with one too many penis straws by drunken Hens....

I haven't had a hens night as MM and I are not actually married (gasp!) but I have been to a fair few and I am all for dinner and a good catch up with friends...Sounds like heaven right now!

Well, i am sure you are aware of my dilemma in the waiting game...
I do have idea's for my hen's night though! I just don't want no barely clothed men wearing olive oil thankyou! Lol.
I will be having a hen's though, just because i can, just as a girls night out and SO is having a bucks (he won't not have one) so i bloody deserve one!

I've also never been invited to a hen's. Should i be offended? I haven't even heard chatter about hen's parties so i'm not too sure what to expect...
