Anti-organisation stand off

Image from here
We are meant to have started our short family holiday today. Only, neither the Geege nor I organised it.

I loathe organising things: events; parties; holidays; nights out. Loathe it. Too many other people to please. Too much decision making. Too many details. I prefer to be organised by others. I am easy going like that.

Needlesstosay, I am usually the 'ideas' person and I surround myself with 'do'ers. It is a happy and complementary arrangement. Just don't put me in charge of the operations. I suck at it.

The Geege usually organises and plans our holidays. We rarely stick to the plan (I have too many ideas for that!) but he at least gets us started. He says the planning is all part of the fun. I say the surprise is all part of the fun.

This time there has been an organisation stand off. We booked the days off work. We agreed on the general location and then neither of us did a thing about the details. No bookings, no itinerary, not a single plan. The Geege says he has been too busy. I say I don't *do* organising. And so it didn't get done.

Needlesstosay, our holiday did not start today. Today has been spent searching the internet for holiday accommodation, packing suitcases for the six of us, arranging meal-plans and catching up on the washing. Tomorrow we will head off on our little road-trip. All organised by me, so it is bound to be a disaster!

Who does the organising at your place?

I just finished sorting the details for our home exchanges at the end of this year. Truthfully I am feeling very smug about being so organised for once. I am the details person in our house needless to say. Love how you're sorting it today and I am sure it will be terrific. Have a great trip! x

PS re the plan sticking, we are ALWAYS changing ours as well. But having just paid a rebooking fee we are definitely not going anywhere else except our current itinerary!

I am the organiser - Husband is the go with the flow. Most days we travel he doesn't have a clue what is in stall for him and he loves it that way. I couldn't live like that, and create and stick to the itinery in my head. Sometimes though, I wish I could wake up one day on holiday and not know what is in store for me.... but I get over that quickly :o)

Me, me, Glorious ME!

Enjoy your break, Coo. It will be fab, regardless. x

This is just so funny because we are EXACTLY the same! I have the idea "let's go here and leave around this date" but I HATE organising anything logistical like accommodation, transport, itinerary etc. It takes all the fun out of things for me. My husband does all that, happily actually. I think it stems from my uni days of backpacking around and not needing to really organise anything. Things are different now with a family in tow and I see the need to have things organised but I still don't like it. I'm sorry you lost one precious day already but hope you have a great trip!!!

I am 100% the organiser here. I am.... not a fan of unplanned activities or "surprises".
Mr Black is a fly by the seat of your pants kinda dude. It's gotten us into too many pickles so he is banished. I plan and organise. It's the control freak in me.

I think you know I lack in the organsation department. I like to fly by the seat of my pants! MM is a better organiser but not brilliant, just better than me. I hope you have a fun holiday. I think you will because the best thing about being an Unorganiser is that we work best under pressure...right?

Love it! Have fun.

Have a fantastic trip.
With head down, I mumble that I am definitely an over-organiser.
Love it to pieces. Lots of little colour coordinated, sized, neat, organised little pieces.
:-)

I am definitely the organiser in our household....otherwise it just WOULD NOT HAPPEN. We would never set foot outside our house if I left it up to the Rock God. However, even though I am the organiser, I am so organised when it comes to travelling with the kids/going away etc. that I often make CRAZY spontaneous decisions to drive down to Phillip Island for the weekend or go camping on the spur of the moment or find a place to stay somewhere. Once I say we are going, we are gone in like 2 hours! Packing is my forte :)

I'm a bit reluctant to make big decisions, but am generally chief organiser here. I like all the research that goes along with it :)

Have a wonderful holiday! x

I'm the organiser in our household but that's because I like it that way. N is chilled and doesn't mind what I organise, so long as he has a bit of input, he's happy. But, he did organise our cruise much to my delight! It was nice to be surprised for a change. Hope you have fun on your trip :)

Have fun on your trip.

In our house I am the organiser. If left to my husband nothing would happen. He has no desire to organise and since I am a little bit of a control freak he is happy to let me do my thing.

No one in his family are organisers, so it's not an issue for him.

I'm like you, come up with ideas and my hubby does the organising.

Enjoy your little road-trip xo

I'm one of those lucky people who does some of planning. My husband is happy to do some too. I generally make all of the little plans for what we are going to to when we get there, but he is great at making reservations and buying tickets. It's a match made in ......well our house at least. :) Have a wonderful time on your trip, where ever and whenever you get there. :)

I always organise everything. I am a control freak like that. If I let my husband have any part of the organisation, I would only go afterwards and question him to make sure he didn't forget anything.

I come up with the ideas, and Mr Karen is the organiser. It's why I married him, that and his dimples.
Enjoy your trip. :)

I remember this post! As I said in my previous comment, I am definitely the organiser. I planned our entire wedding bar the cars. That's all my husband did. And it was perfect. Everyone was happy

I usually plan the things to do, and my husband usually plans the rooms and flights. That works out perfectly for me. I agree with what you said about the fun of leaving some stuff unplanned. One time in Wyoming, though, we drove for many, many hours into the night in search of a hotel room across a huge reservation and didn't realize there were none around and had two hungry, tired boys on our hands. Since then, we've at least booked our rooms ahead.

Sadly, neither of us, but it looks like I'm slowly and reluctantly assuming the role, although I loathe phone calls, so I make him do all of those, so maybe we're evolving into a formidable organising team (yeah, probably not).

Here from the Weekend Rewind!

Unfortunately in my house I am both the ideas person AND the organiser. Organising is one of those things I am good at, but wish I wasn't!!

haha, loved this one! Hubby and I are pretty good (i'm over-organiser, and he's more laid back) but we have much more diversity in extended family so family events are interesting!

Hayley @ HappyHouseWifey said...

actually, I'm now reminded of the day when we went out and I left getting our toddler ready in the hands of my husband. We got out of the car (an hour from home, about to spend the day at a park etc) and I turned to hubby and said "uh, where are his shoes??".... yup, and since my boy has such odd feet we couldn't even buy shoes for him - we could only find a pair of slippers that fit, so he spend the day running around the park/beach/shops in bright blue doggy slippers. very cute :)

I'm the ideas (wo)man and organiser in our house. Love me a list and hate disorganisation. I think my husband just comes along for the ride and does what he's told!

Giving Back Girl said...

I'm the pre-holiday organiser, The Husband is the on the ground go-to guy. It's usually a happy combination, but sometimes I don't want to do his Lonely Planet "walking tours" but want to enjoy my hotel room that I shed blood and tears trying to find the "perfect" place. Love how your holiday started, hopefully it got a smidge better! Visiting from the Rewind :-)

Haha, this will definitely happen to us one day. Hubby is chief organiser but has been handballing to me lately. And I've been ignoring it in a state of mild panic.
